In 1637, this tulip, the Semper Agustus, was the most expensive flower in the world (roughly the cost of a fashionable home) until prices dramatically crashed. I painted this piece with intention. I thought about the things that make life rich and what I hold in highest regard. Predictably, they are the intangibles, and what a better reminder than this striking piece?
